As the dust starts to settle after a busy ‘deadline day’ of announcements in the FIA World Rallycross Championship just two weeks ago, GC KOMPETITION are excited to announce one final change to our 2020 driver line-up.

Changing course from tackling Europe, Kevin Abbring will now be competing as an individual entry in selected FIA World Rallycross Championship rounds, including Abu Dhabi, Cape Town, Portugal and the new track at the Nürburgring.

Originally planning to register as a permanent entry into the FIA European Rallycross Championship, Abbring will instead focus on taking on the best in the world – and all around the world – in the newly-developed GCK Clio RS RX.

Kevin made his World RX debut last year, competing in two events with ES Motorsports and impressing everyone on his way to P4 at both Hell and Holjes - two legendary tracks in the sport of rallycross. This year he hopes to repeat that success, and push to go one step further and grab a maiden World RX podium.

"YEAH! It feels fantastic to be racing at the highest level again after successful World RX debut last year. This is obviously where I like to be!”

“Fighting for an entire Championship would have been great of course, but this is definitely the long term aim here as well – and competing against the very best in the world this year will be a positive step for sure.”

Guerlain echoed these thoughts, acknowledging the benefits this could bring in years to come.

“Putting Kevin into World RX rather than Euro RX was a strategic decision for the team. Kevin has enormous talent and is super committed to the sport, and we'd always planned for him and I to work very closely together this year.”

“Globally, there are a lot of issues at the moment, and having Kevin put his focus and energy into the same number of races but at world-level against some of the world's best rallycross drivers will prepare him for a successful, full assault come 2021.”

Kevin saved some final words for the ongoing COVID-19 situation, but promised he – as well as the rest of the paddock – will be ready to put on a show when things are ready to kick off again:

“I’m obviously most concerned about the global health situation we are facing right now, and just hoping everyone stays safe. However, as professional drivers, we can’t wait to be back racing competitively of course - and I’m sure once the situation is under control we will put down some of the best rallycross action yet!"

While the current global health situation has put an unprecedented delay to motorsport calendars around the world, Kevin Abbring will still be bringing rallycross action to us ‘virtually’ this week, taking on the #HomeLaps challenge on DiRT Rally 2.0.
