GCK BILSTEIN CELEBRATES PODIUM SUCCESS IN BARCELONA
The second day and Round 8 of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Barcelona kicked off for GCK Bilstein with Swedish driver Anton Marklund starting his first qualifier on the outside alongside Scheider, Karai and Gronholm.
Marklund dropped into p4 off the start line and chased down the lead as both Scheider and Karai jokered. He jokered in the last lap, coming out alongside Scheider but was pushed wide to finish in p3, putting down the 10th fastest time overall following the first qualifier.
GCK Bilstein’s 2nd qualifier saw Marklund drop into P2 behind Scheider having been squeezed into turn 1. Marklund gained position into 2nd in lap 3 before overtaking Scheider in the last lap to take the chequered flag, moving up by 3 positions to a strong p7 overall.
On pole for his third qualifier and the final chance to fight for semi-final position, Marklund took on Gronholm, Scheider, Timerzyanov and Karai.
Managing to find traction through the first turn, Marklund took the lead and charged ahead into the clear, taking the chequered flag with a strong time putting him into p6 overall heading into the semi-final.
Starting from the 2nd row of semi-final 2, Marklund put down a clean start and took the inside line into p3 following turn 1. He maintained position and pushed ahead to create enough distance to join the pack in p4 following his joker in lap 3. He pushed into p3 on the final lap to cross the finish line for a 3rd row spot in the final.

Overtaking Ekstrom in lap 4, he finished in p3, successfully bagging GCK Bilstein’s first podium in 2020 and Marklund’s 3rd podium with the GCK team.

“I’m really really happy for all of GCK and Bilstein. While I was at home trying to relax and doing analysis in between races, they’ve worked super hard at the workshop and the factory to bring us a race-ready car with significant improvements since Finland RX. I’m just so happy that they’ve made it work and they now have a car that races extremely well and is fully back on pace. We just have to build on this now and we have a race win in us still.”, Anton commented.
